Friend feed is great. I am grateful for the fact that it shows all the tweets from my buddies rather than the ones twitter thinks I am interested in, otherwise it will be very difficult to check if one of your buddies is around to talk to.

I also use the like feature even though some people don't check to see who has liked their tweets that often I think they'll get a nice surprise when they do.

Unless of course you mix in the circles whereever every one talks RP, I find it more welcoming and on a level to hear someone with an accent that's close to your own or essentially an accent you're more comfortable listening to.

In this new landscape, I miss the shared experience. The on-demand experience is great for those who can't work with schedules or prefer the freedom it provides but it lacks one key component is talking to your friends, family and colleagues about what you have watched - you have to check first if they've watched the same programme and if they haven't yet then that's it, the topic is unlikely to come up again :(

My hopes for the future are in true on the ground media journalism as exhibited for example by the use of Audio Boo in the reporting of the G20 protests http://blogs.journalism.co.uk/editors/tag/audioboo/

cheers

Geoff

Dean, this post you have shared with us has opened my eyes to a different perspective on this senseless war. I judge this as "senseless" because I cannot give it any other name. I exhale in utter disgust at what is happening today in Gaza. As much as I respect a nations right to defend itself I do not accept that innocent Palestinians (non-combatants) need to shed their blood and tears in return for "security".

There is no security for us if our brothers and sisters in Palestine do not feel secure themselves.

May God help us all.

Respect out to you and Bryan for doing your part to help inform the world what is REALLY happening in Gaza today.

Synchronicity, I organised one of what I thought was the first tsunami benefit gig on the 22nd of January (my birthday) at The Brixton JAMM featuring rhythms of resistance and a host of other musicians. It was a massive success, we were literally turning people away. One of my proudest moments. We made £5000 profit which we gave to a charity (can't remember the name now) that would distribute it to those most in need.
Seems like you beat me to it, Dean! ;)

I blew Blip.fm off at first. Now I have that feeling I may have missed something. Is there a rewind button?

I won't have a chance to play with this now. I do have it playing in the background. Is there a way to choose a style or genre. I occasionally used iTunes for it's radio from other countries. Arabic stations for instance had some interesting music. Rap/Hip Hop was one I'd return to after adding to favorites.

I just posted a tune and see that you sent a welcome & what took so long ... no excuse ... I was late.

okay going to reply on Blip and pick another tune to share.

Talk to you soon.

Blip.fm is possibly the most addictive social networking site I've joined in recent months.

I also think that it gives me a little more of a connection to the other DJ's as we are sharing something of our own likes and dislikes through the message we leave and the songs we choose.

And I enjoy your station - thanks Dean!

I like your weblog. I think here, though, that this dichotomy of view is too rigid and is being outmoded by the cultural changes arising from information technology. Rather than being merely an enemy of attention,
the new technology offers chances to experience media in ways other than the 30 second, 60 second, 1/2 hour, 1 hour, 100 minutes way of traditional media offerings. Once one takes the means of production and the means of distribution, new ways for shared experiences arise.

Sousa was certain that recorded music would ruin the interest in performed music. He was mistaken.

The artificial business/creativity distinction is not the dichotomy at play--as ever, the dichotomy is the individual's expression, through arts, through scientific discovery, through personal action, versus the dehumanization which institutional control, whether corporate, government, gallery or what-have-you, can create. I favor individual action to create a sharing economy, in which we no longer view artists as antithetical to day to day life, but instead as integral. I see this as a process of shared experience.
How to get more of this kind of interview in front of the crap that is reported in the news. Talking head drivel on most "news" programming is shallow, restricted and interupted by advertising schedules and the likes of Vidal dismissed as Liberal Intellectual Left ...

This week has really bugged me with Memorial day approaching and the mess continuing. The hearings held on Energy and Oil have been interesting and maddening. The execs "on the hot seat" dodge and weave ....

4000 plus men and women in our Military have died. Faceless/countless Iraqis and Afghanis too. And almost in parallel the profits match these deaths ... and these "men" feign ignorance/innocence when it comes to answering the simplest questioning.

Secret energy meeting: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/11/15/AR2005111501842.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_Task_Force

The hearings held this week can be viewed on http://www.cspan.org/

Administration Energy Policy
http://tinyurl.com/6k7o4r

Rising Oil Prices:
http://tinyurl.com/68mccs

Secret energy meeting: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/11/15/AR2005111501842.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_Task_Force

Few articles I read were original (mostly newswire or from the newswire services), found none that took the time to analyze what is said, add up these numbers, check facts...

Yup sleep walking and ignorance might explain most. Fear? Maybe. Sometimes the answer was surprising, actually shocking. The energy Secretary was asked several questions, one about his own view ... he had no opinion of his own. Asked about a energy swap ... simple question ... dumbfounded.

I hope you have a chance to (even briefly) watch these two hearings.

Thanks Deek

Hi Dean,

My name is simon london and i've just spent a very enjoyable half hour browsing your site.

Anyway the reason i'm posting is because I used to be a massive fan of your band Habit back in the day. the great thing about the internet is you can waste many happy hours looking for things you thought you lost so it was great to discover you were a former band member.

I just wondered whether you had a CD copy of the album i could beg, buy, borrow or steal - it was the soundtrack of my university days and now I only have a very stretched cassette copy as your original LP went walkies years ago.

I'd really like to use it as the soundtrack to a short film i'm going to make and show at a reunion for some university mates as we used to play the album non stop.

It would be great if you could help out - before I start looking on ebay and via some dodgy european sites for some back copies....

Anyway, best of luck with all your projects...hope to hear from you

Simon

Anyway the reason i’m posting is because I used to be a massive fan of your band Habit back in the day. the great thing about the internet is you can waste many happy hours looking for things you thought you lost so it was great to discover you were a former band member.

I just wondered whether you had a CD copy of the album i could beg, buy, borrow or steal – it was the soundtrack of my university days and now I only have a very stretched cassette copy as your original LP went walkies years ago.

I’d really like to use it as the soundtrack to a short film i’m going to make and show at a reunion for some university mates as we used to play the album non stop.

It would be great if you could help out – before I start looking on ebay and via some dodgy european sites for some back copies….

Anyway, best of luck with all your projects…hope to hear from you

hi dean. could not find an easy way of finding your email address so i thought this would be best way. i noticed on the podcamp europe page that you seem to be arriving at 16:40 so i'm guessing your flying from stansted. As i will be also i thought it might be good to meet up at airport before the flight out.

Cheers
Phil
http://r3wind.com

Just a pity we didn't meet up at podcastcon, although because I have been hanging around with a load of Americans for the past 12 months or so, it felt like the whole conference was in some sort of time warp.
please feel free to join the ranks of the UKvideobloggers@yahoogroups group and keep in touch, we need more British video out there. Also Kudos for finding Dailymotion.

Excellent article Dean. Once again, you've got your finger well and truly on the pulse.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on corporate/commercial podcasting, and how you see that whole paradigm evolving, as more and more firms start using podcasting as a way to communicate with their customers and prospects.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing you at PCCUK...

Mike O'Hara
www.fishbowlacoustic.com
www.coldcallingpodcast.com
www.mifidpodcast.com
